Malaysia denies sanctioning Russian ship’s port call

Port operator made decision not to violate sanctions against Russia, says Transport Ministry

ANKARA (AA) - Malaysia denied Tuesday it sanctioned a Russian ship’s port call.

The sanctioned ship, Linda, scheduled to arrive at the Kuala Linggi port March 5, was denied a port call as the port’s operator did not want to violate any sanctions, the Malaysian Transportation Ministry said in a statement.

“We will continue to monitor the related developments and will take steps accordingly,” it added.

Since Russia's war on Ukraine began last Thursday, it has been met by outrage from the international community, with the EU, UK and US implementing a range of economic sanctions on Russia.

At least 136 civilians, including 13 children, have been killed and 400 others, including 26 children, injured in Ukraine, according to UN figures.

Around 660,000 people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, the UN Refugee Agency said Tuesday.
