Malaysian police to question Anwar over sexual assault

ANKARA (AA) - Malaysian police on Wednesday will probe Anwar Ibrahim, the country's prime minister-in-waiting, over a sexual assault case in the latest twist to politics in the Southeast Asian nation.

“I would like to stress that I am ready to give my statement to the police as soon as possible to assist investigations,” Malaysia’s The Star Online reported, citing Ibrahim’s statement on Wednesday.

Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, Anwar's former research assistant, said last week that he was sexually assaulted by Anwar in October 2018.

Rawther’s statement was recorded by the police on Monday and Tuesday.

Anwar has denied the allegations saying he was taking part in an election campaign on that day in the southern coastal town of Port Dickson.
