Trade exchange between Mauritania, Algeria hit $87 million in 2021

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AA) – Mauritania and Algeria on Wednesday signed a flurry of cooperation agreements between the two neighbors.

This came during the meetings of a joint committee co-chaired by Mauritanian Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Massoud and his Algerian counterpart Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman in the capital Nouakchott.

“The meetings of the Algerian-Mauritanian Joint Committee were crowned with the signing of 26 cooperation deals in various fields,” Ben Abdel Rahman said in statements.

The agreements cover the fields of energy, security, fishery, higher education and vocational training.

The Algerian premier arrived in Nouakchott on Tuesday to chair the meetings of the joint committee between the two countries after a 6-year suspension.

In 2018, Algeria and Mauritania opened their first land crossing.

Trade exchange between the two countries hit $87 million in 2021.

In December 2021, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani visited Algeria, for the first visit by a Mauritanian leader since 2009.
