Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal tenders his government’s resignation to president, official statement says

By Omer Erdem

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AA) - Mauritanian Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal on Tuesday tendered his government’s resignation to the country’s president, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The resignation came days after President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani severely criticized the government's performance.

"Most ministries do not have enough staff to solve the problems of citizens. This is unacceptable. There is a huge lack of oversight of public services," Ghazouani said in a speech on March 24.

Bilal had replaced Ismail Ould Badah Ould Cheikh Sidia who left his post in August 2020 following corruption allegations.

Before taking office, Bilal served as an adviser to Ghazouani.
