Military court executes 2 al-Shabaab in Mogadishu

Two convicted for roles in terrorist attacks and killings of officials, journalists and civilians

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - Two Al-Shabaab militants were executed by a Somali military court in Somali capital Mogadishu on Monday morning, the state media said.

They were convicted by military tribunal for their role in terrorist attacks and killings of officials, journalists and civilians in Mogadishu between 2017 and 2018.

“Anshour Osman Abukar (23), Mohamed Ali Borow (25) were convicted for their role in multiple attacks including Nasa-Hablod and Sahafi Hotels and national theatre that killed over 15 people including journalists, government officials and civilians in Somali capital Mogadishu”, the state and local media said on Monday.

Last Thursday, Somali military tribunal in Mogadishu had sentenced a Daesh militant to death for his role in the killing of five people, including civilians and a security official, in separate shooting incidents in 2018-19 in north and southern Somalia.

Somalia, located in the Horn of Africa and bordered by Ethiopia to the west, the Gulf of Aden to the north had witnessed multiple terror attacks over past two decades.

In October 2017, hundreds of people were killed in a double car bombing in Mogadishu, the deadliest attack in the country's history.
