EDIRNE, Turkey (AA) - Local vaccination units in Turkey's northwestern Edirne province are visiting the homes of people with disabilities to deliver their COVID-19 jabs, ensuring vital medical assistance as the waning outbreak continues.

A mobile group paid a visit to 51-year-old Bahriye Kocakahya and her sister in the province’s Mithatpasa area to give their second vaccination shots.

“She was looking forward to being vaccinated. Both the first and second jabs went smoothly,” said Fahriye Kaymak, Bahriye’s sister. “The outbreak is continuing, and I urge everyone to get their vaccinations.”

She also called on everyone to remain committed to COVID-19 measures such as wearing masks, keeping social distancing, and paying attention to personal hygiene.

Located along the Greek border, Edirne ranks first among Turkish cities in terms of vaccination per population; more than 347,000 of 407,000 people have gotten their COVID-19 jabs.

Since the eruption of the outbreak, Turkey has reported over 5.39 million cases and the death toll stands at 49,473. The tally of recoveries has topped 5.26 million, and more than 46.3 million vaccine shots have been administered across the country.
