WASHINGTON (AA) - More than 510,000 people are without power Thursday after powerful storms ripped through the Great Plains and the Midwest.

High winds resulted in dust storms, fueled wildfires and destroyed power lines on Wednesday.

Power outages are being reported in eight states, including Colorado and Michigan, according to PowerOutage.us tracker.

As of early Thursday, 242,000 outages, about half of the total, are in Michigan.

In the state of Iowa, one truck driver died when his vehicle was hit by a strong gust of wind, rolling it over and into a ditch, the Washington Post reported, citing a state patrol crash report.

The storms came days after a wave of tornadoes tore through the state of Kentucky and at least six other states late Friday into Saturday.

The city of Mayfield in Kentucky has been the hardest hit.

Nearly 90 people have died because of last weekend's devastating tornadoes.
