More virus cases, deaths reported in Eurasia, C. Asia

KIEV, Ukraine (AA) - More coronavirus casews and fatalities were reported in Central Asian and Eurasian countries on Wednesday.

Ukraine’s Health Minister Maksim Stepanov announced 1,967 new infections over the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 96,403.

Over 37,000 tests were carried out by health professionals in the past day, Stepanov said.

A total of 2,144 people died of COVID-19 in the country, with 28 new fatalities.

Some 812 people recovered from the disease over the past 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 49,737.

Stepanov said the number of cases have increased in recent days.

- Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry reported 408 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 36,760.

Three more fatalities took the death toll to 245, while recoveries increased by 161 to reach 32,223.

Nearly 4,292 patients remain hospitalized across the country.

- Kazakhstan

According to the country’s Health Ministry, the number of cases rose to 103,571 with 271 additions over the past 24 hours.

A total of 1,841 people recovered over the last day, taking the tally to 86,286. The death toll reached 1,446, with 15 fatalities.

- Armenia

Armenia's coronavirus case count swelled by 210 to reach 42,056, according to the Health Ministry.

One more fatality over the past 24 hours brought the death toll to 833.

A total of 35,226 people have recovered in the country so far, while 5,748 patients remain under treatment, the ministry said.

- Kyrgyzstan

The Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan said the number of infections rose by 179 to reach 42,325.

The death toll in the country reached 1,499 with one more fatality.

Restrictions on public gatherings still continue in the country.

- Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there are 1,402 cases in the country with 10 more additions over the past day.

The total number of recoveries reached 1,098 as six more people recovered over the past 24 hours.

The death toll from the virus stood at 17.

Some 6,903 people are in quarantine across Georgia, while 278 are under surveillance in hospitals.
