Moroccan authorities arrest 6 for suspected Daesh links

RABAT (AA) - Security forces have arrested six individuals for suspected links to the Daesh terrorist group, Morocco’s Interior Ministry said Monday.

Following the dismantling of a Daesh “cell” earlier this month, investigations conducted by Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (which is linked to the country’s intelligence apparatus) led to the arrest of six more cell members, the ministry said in a Monday statement.

According to the same statement, the six were arrested in Moroccan capital Rabat and in the villages of Beni Mellal and Duwar.

On Oct. 14, the Moroccan authorities announced the arrest of 11 suspected members of a Daesh “terrorist cell”, which, they said, had been planning to stage attacks on critical infrastructure.

Last week, Morocco’s Interior Ministry announced it had broken up a total of 174 terrorist cells -- 60 of which were linked to Daesh -- since 2002.
