Moroccan king calls for stepped-up ties with Washington
King makes assertion in congratulatory message sent to US president on occasion of America’s Independence Day

RABAT (AA) - Moroccan King Mohammed VI on Wednesday stressed his desire to enhance his country’s relations with the U.S., according to Morocco’s official Maghreb Arabe Press Agency.
The king made the assertion in a message of congratulations sent to U.S. President Donald Trump on the occasion of America’s Independence Day.
In the message, King Mohammed extolled the “deep and historical relations between our two countries”.
He also stressed his desire to continue working with Trump with a view to “enriching our bilateral relations and revitalizing the Moroccan-American strategic partnership”.
Last Friday, at a press conference held in Rabat with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan described Morocco as a “major” non-NATO ally of the U.S.
Sullivan went on to stress his country’s commitment to “enhancing relations with the Moroccan people”.
