Multiple mangled bodies found on rooftop of Pakistani hospital

ISLAMABAD (AA) – A callous act of putting multiple unclaimed bodies on the rooftop of a hospital in Pakistan's southern Multan city prompted the government on Friday to launch an investigation into the desecration of human remains and failure to bury them in line with religious rights.

Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister of central-eastern Punjab province, has ordered an investigation into the disposal of human remains on the rooftop of a morgue at Nishtra Hospital Multan.

Videos of the hospital went viral on social media on Thursday, prompting the provincial administration to take action.

A chief minister's advisor Chaudhry Zaman Gujjar visited the hospital and observed multiple mangled bodies on the mortuary's rooftop, a local newspaper reported.

The students utilize the bodies for medical experiments, and the skulls were placed on the rooftop for extraction, according to Dawn newspaper, citing comments from a Nishtar Medical University student.

The chief minister condemned the disrespect of human bodies and promised stern disciplinary action against those responsible. He ordered a report from the provincial secretary of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education within three days.

He said such an act has no place in any society, that placing abandoned remains on the rooftop is a mockery of humanity, and that those involved should be identified and harshly punished.

The revelation has sparked outrage around the country, with people demanding harsh punishment for the officials responsible for this inhumane conduct.

Monis Elahi, a former federal minister and the son of the incumbent Punjab chief minister, posted the hospital's initial response on Twitter, in which the head of the Anatomy Department indicated that the remains had been handed over to the police.

However, the department head admitted that following the process of complete putrefaction, the bones are extracted from these bodies for learning purposes by medical students.
