Neo-Nazi group members jailed for terror plans

BERLIN (AA) - A German court sentenced eight Neo-Nazis to prison terms on Tuesday for founding a terrorist group and planning attacks to overthrow the democratic constitutional order.

The members of the so-called “Revolution Chemnitz” group were sentenced to prison terms between two years and three months, and five and a half years, following a six-month trial in the eastern German state of Dresden.

The Higher Regional Court of Dresden found the suspects guilty of membership in a terrorist organization, and plotting armed attacks on immigrants, and political figures to shake the foundations of the democratic state.

The eight Neo-Nazis, aged between 22 and 32, were arrested in 2018 in the eastern German state of Chemnitz, a stronghold of far-right parties and groups.

The group’s internal communications had revealed that they planned a terrorist attack in Berlin on Oct. 3, during the “Day of German Unity” celebrations.
