ISTANBUL (AA) - Tanzanian students have started their new term at a school run by a Turkish state-run education body, the foundation reported on Thursday.

According to a written statement from the Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMV), Haci Ayse Var College in Zanzibar began the new term with an opening ceremony.

Ali Davutoglu, Turkey's Ambassador to Tanzania, wished success to students.

Davutoglu stressed that the foundation has more than 200 schools in 34 countries and expressed his hope to open more schools in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma cities of the East African country.

Cihad Demirli, TMV board of trustees members, said Turkey believes in changing the world by providing quality education.

"We have a historical relationship of more than 500 years with the United Republic of Tanzania. As TMV we will keep working with Tanzania to increase the quality of education," he added.

TMV members, Tanzanian authorities and families of students joined the opening ceremony.

Davutoglu and TMV delegates also visited Riziki Pembe, Zanzibar's National Education Minister.
