New York set to host Istanbul Photo Awards exhibition

Award-winning photographs will be displayed at UN headquarters for about two weeks starting from Monday

NEW YORK (AA) - Anadolu Agency’s award-winning selection of photographs from the Istanbul Photo Awards 2017 (IPA) will go on exhibit on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York City.

Anadolu Agency Deputy Director-General and Editor-in-Chief Metin Mutanoglu will host the exhibition.

Turkey's permanent representative at UN Feridun Sinirlioglu, Consul General in New York Ertan Yalcin, UN permanent representatives and consular authorities, national and international media organizations and Turkish community representatives are expected to attend the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open for its visitors until Oct. 27.

Twenty-two photographers were awarded from 17 countries during 2017 IPA contest which is sponsored by Turkish Airlines (THY) and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

Photo of the Year award was given to French photographer Frederic Lafargue’s "Fleeing Daesh" which was clicked in Iraq for Paris Match.

Aris Messinis’s series "Death in the Mediterranean" for Agence France-Presse won the News Series Award, while Adam Pretty's photo "Below the Surface" taken for Getty Images won the Sports Single Award. Patrick Smith received the Sports Series Award as well.

Mary Gelman won the top prize in the Multiple Portrait category for her images of domestic violence victims. There was no winner in the Single Portrait category.

Kemal Jufri’s Feeding Orphaned Orangutans won the Nature-Environment Story Award, while Johnny Miller's Papwa Sewgolum Golf Course photo series took home the Nature-Environment Single Award.

Hosam Salem, a freelance photojournalist in Gaza, received the Young Photojournalist Award for Street Training in Gaza.

The Istanbul Photo Awards saw around 25,000 entries.
