Nicaraguan police prohibit Roman Catholic Church's religious service in Managua
Police say request rejected due to 'internal security reasons’

BOGOTA (AA) - The Roman Catholic Church said Saturday that Nicaraguan police rejected its request to celebrate mass in the nation’s capital of Managua.
The Church said national police did not allow the planned event and service at the Marian Congress, citing "internal security reasons," according to media reports.
The Archdiocese of Managua, affiliated with the Church, criticized the decision and urged the faithful to peacefully pray for the Church and Nicaragua.
An Aug. 1 statement by the government said the Bishop of Matagalpa, Rolando Alvarez, allegedly incited hatred and violence, and that an investigation would be launched.
Seven radio stations belonging to the Roman Catholic Church have so far been shut down at different times in Nicaragua.
The National Assembly revoked the legal status of four private universities and six charities on Feb. 3 that are affiliated with the Church.
