Niger takes over term presidency of West African Economic and Monetary Union

Niger receives UEMOA presidency from Ivory Coast during meeting attended by Senegal's president and leaders of other member states

DAKAR, Senegal (AA) – Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum was appointed chairman of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) on Monday.

The 23rd session of the Heads of State and Government of UEMOA was held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Bazoum received the UEMOA presidency from Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara during the meeting, in which Senegal's President Macky Sall and the leaders of other member states were present.

Established in 1994, the UEMOA has eight member countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
