No new coronavirus deaths recorded in Lebanon, Bahrain

Saudi Arabia with over 67,700 cases worst-hit country in region, followed by Qatar with more than 40,400 infections

ANKARA (AA) - The tally of coronavirus cases and deaths rose Friday in four Arab countries, according to health authorities.

Saudi Arabia, the worst-hit country in the region, reported 2,642 fresh cases, pushing the tally to 67,719. The country’s Health Ministry said the death toll climbed up to 364 as 13 more people died over the past 24 hours.

In Qatar, the death toll rose to 19 as two more patients died due to the virus. The country’s Health Ministry said 1,830 new cases were registered over the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 40,481.

The total number of recoveries in Qatar stands at 7,893.

In Lebanon, the Health Ministry confirmed 62 new virus cases, bringing the tally to 1,086, including 26 deaths and 663 recoveries.

Bahrain's Health Ministry said 164 more infections were recorded in the country over the past 24 hours. The death toll in the country stands at 12, with a total of 8,338 cases.

The pandemic has claimed nearly 333,500 lives in 188 countries and regions since originating in China last December. The US, Europe, and Russia are currently the world’s worst-hit regions.

More than 5.12 million cases have been reported worldwide and over 1.96 million people have recovered to date, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
