North Korea condemns US President Trump’s ‘Nazism’

Pyongyang’s state media claims Donald Trump’s America surpasses 20th century examples of fascism

SEOUL (AA) - North Korea’s main state-run media outlet accused United States President Donald Trump Tuesday of promoting an “American version of Nazism”.

The statement came after the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday allowed for parts of Trump's travel ban to go into effect.

While North Korea has regularly been the subject of global scrutiny for its own alleged human rights abuses, Pyongyang’s KCNA described Trump’s "America first" policy as “far surpassing the fascism in the last century in its ferocious, brutal and chauvinistic nature”.

The timing of the KCNA report occurs the week that will see South Korean President Moon Jae-in travel to the U.S. for a summit with his American counterpart.

Seoul and Washington are expected to liaise closely during the Thursday-Friday meeting on the issue of reining in North Korea’s nuclear weapon ambitions.

Pyongyang views American engagement on the Korean Peninsula -- including the presence of around 30,000 troops -- as a signal that Washington is preparing to reignite the 1950-53 Korean War.
