North Macedonia to receive COVID-19 aid from NATO

Aid includes 60 ventilators, urgently needed equipment worth over $1.65 million, says NATO chief

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - North Macedonia will receive a COVID-19 assistance package from NATO’s new medical stockpile, the alliance announced on Thursday.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at NATO Headquarters on Thursday.

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, North Macedonia benefited from Allied support with the delivery of medical supplies and financial aid to ease the burden on the healthcare system. North Macedonia will receive a COVID-19 assistance package from NATO’s new medical stockpile, including 60 ventilators and other urgently needed equipment worth approximately 1.4 million euros [$1.65 million]," said Stoltenberg.

"This is NATO solidarity in action," Stoltenberg added.

He hailed North Macedonia’s membership of NATO on March 27, 2020 as a remarkable achievement.

“After years of determination and commitments to reform, It is good for the people of North Macedonia," said Stoltenberg, adding that it contributes to Euro-Atlantic security.

Meanwhile, Zaev said that North Macedonia is proud to be the member of the bloc.
