OIC condemns Israel’s demolition of Muslim cemeteries in Jerusalem

ANKARA (AA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday condemned the demolitions and exhumations being carried out at Muslim cemeteries in Jerusalem by Israeli authorities.

Highlighting the sanctity of the Mamilla and Al Yousifieh cemeteries, which are over 1,000 years old, the OIC noted that Israel’s policies target Islamic holy sites, cultural sites and Muslim culture in occupied Jerusalem.

Such policies constitute a provocation to the feelings of Muslims in general and Palestinians in particular, it added.

Similarly, it underlined that the participation on Monday of FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the opening of The Friedman Center for Peace through Strength at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, which was built on the site of demolished Muslim cemeteries, was contrary to the noble values underlying the sport and FIFA’s principles.

His act reflected a clear and unacceptable bias in favor of the Israeli occupation, it added.
