Opposition candidate leads Argentina’s primary polls

Primaries are believed a litmus test for the Oct. 27 presidential election

ANKARA (AA) - Argentina's opposition leader Alberto Fernandez, won the primary elections on Sunday securing, 47.37% of votes.
A Spanish newspaper El País reported that President Mauricio Macri has received just 32.30 votes.
General elections will be held in the South American country on Oct 27, to elect the president, members of the national congress and the governors of most provinces.
Some 33 million Argentines are eligible to cast the compulsory vote, which will go on to a December runoff if none of the presidential candidates wins either 45% of votes or 40% with 10 points over the runner-up in the first round.
Primary elections, conducted on Sunday, were meant to narrow the list of candidates and to determine the nominees for political parties in the general elections.
They effectively serve as a nationwide pre-election opinion poll.
Fernandez has taken an advantage of 15 points difference in the primary, with the backing of opposition Frente de Todos (Everyone's Front) alliance. If the result of primaries are repeated in presidential polls, Fernandez will be the new president of South American country, without going into the second round.
"We have not come to reinstate a regime. We have come to give Argentina a better horizon," Fernandez said.
"We are going to fix, what the others have broken,” he added.
Admitting that ruling Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) coalition had a "bad day", President Macri urged his supporters to redouble efforts from tomorrow to obtain the necessary support to win October elections.
