Over 150 undocumented migrants held in NW Turkey

6 suspects also arrested on charges of human trafficking

CANAKKALE, Turkey (AA) - A total of 160 undocumented migrants were held in northwestern Canakkale province on Saturday, according to security sources.

Turkish gendarmerie forces rounded up 40 undocumented migrants from a truck in Tuzla village of Ayvacik district, the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media, said.

The migrants were attempting to cross into Greece's Lesbos Island.

Later, around 120 more undocumented migrants were held at a construction site in Behramkale village of the same district, said the sources.

The migrants included Syrian, Somalian, Pakistani, Afghans, Malian and Senegalese.

They were referred to provincial migration offices.

Another six suspects were also arrested on charges of human trafficking.
