Pakistan captures 15 Indian fishermen

Fishermen eyeing big catch often cross borders and land in jail for months

ANKARA (AA) – Pakistan has detained around 15 Indian fishermen who allegedly crossed the international maritime boundary line (IMBL) in the Arabian Sea, Indian media reported on Wednesday.

“Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) caught hold of 15 Indian fishermen near the international maritime boundary in Arabian Sea,” an official of Porbandar-based National Fishworkers' Forum (NFF) in the northwestern state of Gujarat told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

This is the second incident in one week, the official said, adding on Jan. 4 five fishermen were arrested by Pakistani authorities and three fishing boats seized.

"The seized boats, which were registered at Porbandar, had set sails a few days back," NFF Secretary Manish Lodhari told the PTI.

The arrest of fishermen by the nuclear-rival South Asian neighbors is a routine affair. Fisherman eyeing big catch often stray across the border and land in jail for months.
