KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistan's former President Asif Ali Zardari, who is in custody of anti-corruption authorities in a money laundering case, was rushed to a government hospital after his health deteriorated on Thursday, local media reported.

Zardari, who is suffering from multiple diseases, was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) --- a corruption watchdog -- earlier this week.

The former president and the widower of slain premier Benazir Bhutto was shifted to the hospital in garrison city of Rawalpindi after his health suddenly deteriorated, local broadcaster 24 News reported quoting unnamed NAB officials.

He is currently on a 10-day remand in NAB’s custody in capital Islamabad.

Zardari, co-chairman of center-left Pakistan People's Party (PPP), who served as president from 2008-2013, is accused of laundering more than 35 billion Pakistani rupees ($300 million) through fake accounts. He has denied the charges.
