Pakistan: School shooting injures 4 children

Gunmen opened fire at school in southwestern Quetta city and sped away

By Aamir Latif

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - At least four children were injured when gunmen opened fire at a school in southwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, police and local media reported.

The shooting took place in the eastern outskirt of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, where motor-bike riding gunmen opened fire at the entrance of a private school injuring four minor students, broadcaster Geo News reported.

The injured were shot in the legs, the channel reported citing health authorities. They are out of danger.

No group or individual has so far taken responsibility of the attack.

In 2014, terrorists attacked an army-run school in northwestern Peshawar city, killing 150 people, mostly students.

Balochistan has been plagued by violence for over six decades with separatists claiming it was forcibly incorporated into Pakistan at the end of British rule in 1947.

Over the course of the last decade, the province -- especially capital Quetta -- has also faced a deadly wave of sectarian violence in which over 2,200 people have been killed.

The province is also a key route of the $64-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), China's Belt and Road Initiative in the country.
