Pakistan: Vehicles arrive for US troops in Afghanistan

The move shows US has no immediate plans to leave the war-hacked country

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - A vessel carrying 600 military trucks to be transported to the US forces stationed in neighboring Afghanistan has recently docked at Pakistan's southern Karachi port- another sign that the US has no immediate plans to leave the war-stricken country-, local media reported on Sunday.

The consignment- the first in last six months- arrived late last month, and will be delivered to US forces based in Afghanistan via Pakistan's northeastern Torkham, and southwestern Chaman crossings, local English Daily Dawn reported quoting official documents.

According to Dawn, the category of the trucks have not been specified in the documents, however officials said they were Humvee vehicles that have been in extensive use of US forces in Afghanistan.

In January last, a similar consignment carrying unspecified number of Humvee vehicles was also unloaded at Karachi port.

The Trump administration is currently mulling sending some 4500 additional troops to Afghanistan on the request of the Kabul government as recent gains by Taliban, and an emerging threat of Daesh have further shaken the world's confidence in the capability of US-backed regime in the war-ravaged country.

Currently, 8500 US troops are stationed in Afghanistan whose primarily role is to train Afghan forces, and provide aerial support in counter terrorism operations.
