Pakistan’s Foreign Office says Islamabad welcomes steps taken by Turkey, Saudi Arabia to address Jamal Khashoggi issue

By Islamuddin Sajid

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistan on Sunday welcomed the contacts between the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and “their desire to work together to address Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi issue.”

"We welcome the steps taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Turkey to address this issue. Disclosing facts to the public and bringing those responsible to justice is important in this regard," Mohammad Faisal, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The statement came two days after the Turkish president and Saudi king discussed Khashoggi’s issue over the phone.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of full cooperation so that the investigation proceeds smoothly, said a Turkish presidential source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Khashoggi was last seen on Oct. 2 when he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

After days of denying to know his whereabouts, Saudi Arabia on Saturday claimed Khashoggi was killed during a fight inside the consulate.
