"A proposal for establishment of the framework was discussed and directives were issued to all concerned ministries to submit their recommendations and input within two week to finalize a draft for the proposed framework," Umar said after the meeting.

On Jan. 5, during Pakistani Premier Imran Khan’s visit to Turkey, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Khan agreed to develop a joint economic strategic framework.

The five-year framework would identify potential areas of economic and trade interests of the two countries, identify obstacles to enhanced trade and investment. and remove obstacles to enhance the economic relationship towards extremely close strategic and historic ties between the countries.

Turkey has great experience in promoting its tourism sector and Pakistan could benefit from this to develop its own tourism sector, said Umar.

The meeting also decided to prepare a draft document for the proposed framework which will be shared with the Turkish side.
