KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Members of Pakistan’s lower house -- the National Assembly -- on Wednesday offered a prayer for Egypt’s first democratically-elected President Mohamed Morsi, who died on Monday.

The prayer was led by Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, a parliamentarian of religious Jamaat-e-Islami party, state-run Pakistan Television reported.

Shehbaz Sharif, the opposition leader in the assembly; and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of opposition center-left Pakistan People’s Party, also took part in the prayer.

In a tweet, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said: “You will remember my words. Do not kill the lions of your nation, lest you will encounter a similar fate by the dogs of your enemies. President Morsi rest in peace. Inna Lillah-e-wa Inna Iilayhi Raji’un.”

Morsi, the first democratically-elected president, died on Monday after falling into a coma inside his soundproof glass cage during his trial on "espionage" charges.

On Tuesday, lawmakers of the provincial assembly in southern Sindh also offered prayers for Morsi on the call of Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Syed Abdul Rasheed.
