Palestine laments ‘inaction’ to Israeli violations in letters to UN

Palestinian envoy sends letters to UN officials on Israeli violations in occupied territories

By Awad al-Rujoub

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Palestine lamented Saturday the inaction of the international community to Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

Palestinian envoy to the United Nations, Riyadh Mansour, sent three similar letters to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, UN General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir and UN Security Council President T. S. Tirumurti.

The letters dwelt on "the delicate situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem as a result to the continued illegal policies and practices by Israel, the occupying power,” the official Wafa news agency said.

Mansour cited the killing of four Palestinians by Israeli gunfire in the occupied West Bank over the past week and crackdown on Palestinian NGOs and journalists as examples of Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

"The world is witnessing these serious crimes, including the killing of children, women and innocent men while still paralyzed,” he said in his letters to the UN officials.

Early on Saturday, the Palestinian Presidency said President Mahmoud Abbas will propose international protection for the Palestinians during his speech to the UN General Assembly next month.

The Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, have been under Israeli occupation since 1967.
