Palestinian shot, injured by Israeli forces in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian youth in the town of Abu Dis in occupied East Jerusalem on Sunday, according to local media.

Border Police said in a statement that the 25-year-old youth walked up to the Abu Dis checkpoint through a lane dedicated to vehicles, according to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

According to the statement, the soldiers shot the young Palestinian after he failed to heed calls to stop.

The unarmed youth was transported to hospital for treatment.

In recent years, several Palestinians were killed and injured by Israeli soldiers at Israel-controlled checkpoints for allegedly planning attacks.

Palestinian and Israeli rights groups, however, deny the Israeli claim, citing that the Palestinians were shot without posing any threat to Israeli soldiers.
