HEBRON, Palestine (AA) – Hundreds of Palestinians demonstrated in the West Bank city of Hebron on Sunday to protest high prices.
Demonstrators blocked roads with trucks amid chants condemning price hikes, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter on the ground.
“We call on the Palestinian government to urgently intervene to stop the rising prices and to subsidize basic commodities," Amjad al-Atrash, an organizer of the rally, told Anadolu Agency.
“Our protest aims to show the rejection of the Palestinian street of the high prices of commodities and fuel,” he said.
Bread prices in the Palestinian territories have reached 4.5 NIS (1.4 $) per kilogram, their highest level since 2014.
The unemployment rate in the Palestinian territories hit 26.4% in the first quarter of 2022, while poverty rate reached 30%, according to official figures.
