GAZA (AA) - Palestinians attending anti-Israel demonstrations on Friday did not forget Mohamed Morsi, the first democratically elected president of Egypt who died amid his trial recently.

Palestinians held peaceful demonstrations, or "Great March of Return", near the fence that separates Gaza strip from Israel. The demonstration held every Friday since March 30, 2018, entered into 63rd week.

Protestors, who demanded an end to the illegal blockade and the right to return to their homes, carried Palestine flags and chanted anti-Israel slogans, while carrying the picture of Morsi.

They carried placards saying: “Next generations will remember, you defended Palestine,” and “Gaza will not forget who stood by her.”

Also funeral prayers in absentia were offered in various parts of Palestine on Friday.

Morsi, a leading member of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, won country’s first free presidential election in 2012.

He was ousted and imprisoned in a military coup led by then-Defense Minister Sisi just after a year in office.

At the time of his death, Morsi faced a host of legal charges, which he, along with numerous human rights groups and independent observers, said were politically motivated.
