Pandemic claims more lives in Libya, Tunisia

ANKARA (AA) – Local health authorities in Libya and Tunisia confirmed additional fatalities from the coronavirus outbreak on Monday.

In a statement, Libya’s National Center for Disease Control said 16 people had died from COVID-19, while 847 people tested positive over the past 24 hours.

The country’s tally now soared to 28,796 confirmed cases, including 450 deaths, and 15,384 recoveries.

Tunisia also recorded eight deaths and 996 new cases in the past day, according to the Health Ministry.

The North African country’s figure now rose to 10,732 infections, including 159 fatalities.

Worldwide, the virus has claimed more than 958,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since first emerging in Wuhan, China in December.

The US, India, Brazil and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 30.87 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 21.1 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
