Paris police shoot attacker near Notre-Dame Cathedral

PARIS (AA) - A major security operation is underway in Paris after a police officer shot a man who tried to attack him with a hammer near Notre-Dame Cathedral, according to media reports.

Paris police prefecture said the entire area surrounding the landmark has been sealed off.

French broadcaster BFMTV reported police are evacuating the square and the cathedral.
