Pentagon on lockdown after shots reportedly fired nearby

Shooting at train station spurs safety measure

ADDS DETAILS THROUGHOUT

By Andy Roesgen

CHICAGO, United States (AA) - The Pentagon went into lockdown early Tuesday after reports of shots fired at a nearby transit station that led to “multiple patients" needing medical care.

The Pentagon Force Protection Agency, in charge of the building's security, announced that no one is temporarily allowed in or out of the complex "due to an incident at the Pentagon Transit Center."

"The scene of the incident is secure. It is still an active crime scene. We request that everyone stay away from the Metro rail entrance and bus platform area," it added on Twitter.

The Arlington County Fire Department separately said it is responding to "multiple patients" at the Pentagon metro station, but said no further information would be provided on the statuses of patients.

That Pentagon Transit Center is a major transportation hub near the Pentagon and is used by multiple bus lines and includes a metro train stop.

Train service has been suspended at the Pentagon metro stop due to the ongoing police investigation, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
