Philippines typhoon death toll climbs to 8

ISTANBUL (AA) – The death toll from a super typhoon in the Philippines has climbed to eight while six others are still missing.

Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Wednesday that the deceased included five rescuers in Bulacan province in the Central Luzon region.

Typhoon Noru, locally known as Karding, hit the Philippines on Sunday.

Local media, however, put the number of deaths at 10, adding eight others were missing.

The council said around 100 related incidents were reported following the typhoon.

Karding, the 11th tropical cyclone to hit the archipelago nation this year, lashed Central Luzon with torrential rains and fierce winds.

Northern and southern parts of the Luzon region were also affected.

The data shared by the council showed 157,023 people from 39,893 families were affected while over 3,000 houses were damaged due to the typhoon which has displaced close to 53,000 people.
