MARDIN, Turkey (AA) - Numerous police officers and civilians were injured on Wednesday in two separate PKK bomb attacks in southeastern Turkey, security sources said.
Six police officers and four civilians were injured when a handmade roadside explosive was detonated when a police vehicle was passing by in Kiziltepe district of southeastern Mardin province, the source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Terrorist organization PKK also carried out a separate attack in Sur district of southeastern Diyarbakir province on Wednesday, targeting another police vehicle. The number of injuries or casualties, including police officers and civilians, has not been specified for the Sur attack, according to authorities.
Ambulances were dispatched to the areas following the explosions.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, over 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists killed or neutralized in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
