ANKARA (AA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday said PKK terror group has “oppressed Kurds the most" throughout the history.

Speaking at an election rally in southeastern Diyarbakir province, Erdogan said the "only" thing that Diyarbakir needs is to get rid of the PKK's "shadow" in the province.

"PKK is the group that has oppressed Kurds the most throughout the history," Erdogan emphasized.

Erdogan said his government has realized works which protected the rights, culture and dignity of the Kurds.

“We are struggling for our Kurdish brothers not to become a tool of imperialists’ plan neither in Iraq nor in Syria,” he added.

Erdogan said a total of 41 billion Turkish liras ($7.5 billion) have so far been invested in Diyarbakir during his Justice and Development (AK) Party’s tenures.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years and has been responsible for the death of nearly 40,000 people, including women and children.
