Police responding to active shooter in Tulsa, Oklahoma after 3 killed

WASHINGTON (AA) - Police in the midwestern city of Tulsa, Oklahoma are responding to an active shooter situation after three people were killed at a local hospital.

"Please stay away from the area and yield to all emergency vehicles as we deal with this response. We will update the media as soon as we are able to gather details," Police Chief Wendell Franklin said on Twitter.

The Tulsa Police Department said in a separate Facebook post that it could confirm that three people were killed as well as the shooter. It is unclear how the shooter died.

Police responded to a call about a man with a rifle at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, which "turned into an active shooter situation," the department said.

"At this point, we can confirm the shooter is down at this time. Officers are currently going through every room in the building checking for additional threats. We know there are multiple injuries, and potentially multiple casualties," it added.
