Police seize cocaine from passenger at Istanbul airport

ISTANBUL (AA) - Over 3 kilograms of cocaine was seized in the suitcase of a South African woman at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport last week, security sources said on Thursday.

Police found 3.587 kg (app. 8 pound) of cocaine in the suitcase of 42-year-old suspect, known by initials M.B.N., who was travelling from Brazil’s Sao Paulo on Nov. 1, said the sources on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The cocaine was found hidden in four pairs of sneakers, the source added.

The suspect was remanded in custody over drug trafficking.
