Police thwart bombing bid in southeast Turkey

SANLIURFA (AA) - Turkish policemen on Thursday arrested a suspect carrying explosive materials in his bag in southeastern Sanliurfa province of Turkey.

According to the information obtained from security forces, police forces became suspicious of an individual in a public square and started to follow him.

Having realized the policemen, the suspect panicked, dropped his bag -- which was carrying explosive materials -- and ran away. However, police were able to arrest him.

Bomb disposal squads later detonated the bomb in a controlled explosion and learned explosive materials were inside the bag.

The arrested suspect is accused of planning a bombing incident in the province.
