Polish PM drops Israel trip over anti-Semitism remarks

Israel's acting foreign minister have suggested that Poles 'suckle anti-Semitism with their mother’s milk'

WARSAW (AA) - Poland's prime minister announced Monday his country will not take part in a meeting with Israeli officials after Israel's new acting foreign minister said Poles "suckle anti-Semitism with their mother’s milk".

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki canceled his trip to Israel where he was supposed to participate in a multilateral meeting together with leaders of the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia, the three other nations that make up the Visegrad group of countries.

Morawiecki rejected Yisrael Katz’s remark as "intolerable" and "racist". He said no Polish officials would attend the event.

On Monday, Katz told Israel's Army Radio: "Many Poles collaborated with the Nazis and took part in the destruction of the Jews during the Holocaust."

The Polish Foreign Ministry on Friday summoned Israel’s ambassador in Warsaw after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also suggested that Poles "collaborated" with the Nazis during World War II.
