Pompeo says he had 'productive' talk with Turkey's FM

WASHINGTON (AA) - U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo said Wednesday he had a "productive" talk with his Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of a NATO meeting in the Belgium capital.

"Productive conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu today in Brussels. We’re committed to overcoming challenges and strengthening our bilateral relations," Pompeo said on Twitter.

Shortly before the top diplomat's tweet, State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said the two men "discussed U.S.-Turkish bilateral relations, with a focus on bilateral and multilateral security and defense issues."

Pompeo and Cavusoglu "built on conversations" between U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during their Nov. 13 meeting at the White House, said Ortagus.
