Probe to be launched into missing Thai navy ammunition

ANKARA (AA) – The Royal Thai Navy will launch an investigation into ammunition missing from a Marine Corps armory at the Sattahip naval base, local media reported on Saturday.

M855 and M856 rounds and 40mm grenades are among the missing ammunition, as discovered on July 5, said naval spokesman Adm. Pokkrong Monthatphalin, according to Thai PBS World.

CCTV footage shows an ordnance officer had opened the door of the armory several times, using a spare key, and stole the ammunition, reported Thai PBS World, adding that Pokkrong said the suspected officer has been absent from work since July 6.

The admiral said a complaint was filed on July 7 with Plutaluang police in the Sattahip district of Chon Buri, it added.
