Protests erupt in Palestine, Jordan against US plan

GAZA/RAMALLAH/AMMAN (AA) - Tens of thousands of Palestinians and Jordanians rallied on Tuesday evening in protests against the announcement of the U.S. peace plan, known as "deal of the century".

The protesters in Gaza, Ramallah and Amman hold Palestinian flags and chanted against the U.S. plan which is widely rejected by all Palestinians.

In Gaza, the protesters expressed their anger against the so-called deal by burning Israeli flags and U.S. President Donald Trump's photos. They also burned tires in streets to express their objection for the alleged peace plan.

- Clashes in the West Bank

In the West Bank, several protests erupted in different areas of the West Bank, mostly in Ramallah, Qalqilya and Al-Khalil cities against the Trump's plan.

The protests turned into clashes with Israeli forces who opened fire on them, but no injuries were reported.

- Protests near US Embassy in Amman

In the Jordanian capital Amman, hundreds of Jordanians took part in a solidarity-stand near the U.S. Embassy amid heavy security presence. The participants chanted against the U.S. plan and accused the Washington of supporting "Israeli terror" against the Palestinian people.

Among the details of Trump's plan, Jerusalem will remain Israel's "undivided capital, said Trump, making light of tensions caused by his decision to recognize the contested city as Israel's territory in December 2017.

The plan does not appear to meet even the most basic Palestinian demands for comprehensive peace with Israel, including the right of return for Palestinian refugees who were forced out of their homes as a result of conflict.

Palestinian officials have cut off communications with their U.S. counterparts since Trump decided to unilaterally recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, undercutting a key pillar of peace talks which held the status of the contested city was to be determined through negotiations.
