Protests held in Stockholm in support of terror group PKK/YPG

STOCKHOLM (AA) - Pro-PKK/YPG protesters gathered in Stockholm on Saturday chanting slogans in support of the terrorist group.

Swedish police stood aside as the terror supporters carried flags and banners of the PKK/YPG.

Such protests in Sweden against Turkish officials and Turks have often turned violent, with threats made against the Turkish Embassy previously.

The embassy walls were painted with PKK slogans and plastered with posters in the past.

According to the Turkish Embassy, police were informed on many occasions, but they “refused to take any action."

These protests are regular occurrences in the country, as, according to the Turkish government, Sweden is known to host, finance, and support YPG/PKK militarily despite them being considered to be a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the EU and, the US.

Earlier, Turkish Ambassador in Sweden Hakki Emre Yunt urged the Nordic country to cut ties with the PKK/YPG and to stop supporting and arming the terrorist groups that are threatening Turkish security and the security of others.

“When we fought against YPG in Syria we found some weapons which were made in Sweden," he said.

Sweden regularly sends official delegations to areas in eastern Syria occupied by the YPG/PKK for talks with terrorist leaders and holds regular meetings with the terror group.

Ankara’s criticism of Sweden and Finland over the support for the terrorist group could jeopardize Sweden's NATO membership as Türkiye, a member of NATO, could block the move.
