By Ahmet Gencturk
ANKARA (AA) – Public transportation workers in the Greek capital went on strike on Wednesday against a proposed law on privatization of the sector, local media reported.
The protesters gathered outside the Finance Ministry in Athens to protest against the proposed law, which if passed, would privatize public enterprises, including the two main public transportation companies, Left.gr news outlet reported.
The protesters, who were joined by senior figures of the main opposition SYRIZA-PS party and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), said the privatization of the firms would undermine their rights and pave the way for the hiring of contractual employees.
In order to become law, the bill has to get majority vote in the Greek parliament.
