DOHA, Qatar (AA) – Qatar on Thursday announced the appointment of an ambassador to Egypt for the first time since the 2017 Gulf crisis.

According to a statement by the Amiri Diwan, the Royal Court of Qatar, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani appointed new ambassadors to Egypt, Turkey, Libya, and Southern Cyprus.

Salem bin Mubarak bin Shafi Al Shafi was appointed to Egypt, Mohammed bin Nasser bin Jassim to Turkey, Khalid Mohammed Zabin Al Zabin Al Dosari to Libya, and Ali Yousef Abdulrahman al-Mulla to the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary.

This is the first time that Doha has appointed an ambassador to Cairo since the beginning of the Gulf crisis and the severing of relations between Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain on one side and Qatar on the other in June 2017.

On June 23, Egypt announced the appointment of an extraordinary ambassador to Qatar, as part of the resumption of relations between them following the Al-Ula Summit and the Gulf reconciliation agreement in January this year.

The Egyptian-Qatari relations witnessed positive steps after signing Al-Ula Declaration in Saudi Arabia, which brought down the curtain on the Gulf crisis.
