Real Madrid become league leaders with 2-0 win over Mallorca

ANKARA (AA) - Real Madrid late Wednesday took the lead in the Spanish top-flight football competition La Liga with a 2-0 win over Mallorca.

Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior scored the opener for his team in the 19th minute with a close-range shot.

Real Madrid doubled the gap in the 56th minute of the second half as team captain Sergio Ramos netted a classy free-kick goal against Mallorca.

The victory boosted Real Madrid's points to 68 to top the standings.

Real Madrid and their bitter rivals Barcelona are now in a nail-biting race for the 2020 title.

Like Real Madrid, second-place Barcelona has 68 points in La Liga, which will conclude in seven weeks.

Atletico Madrid came third with 55 points.

Meanwhile Mallorca are feeling the heat of the relegation zone.

They are now at number 18 with 26 points.
